Wanting a closer relationship with God is honestly what made me begin attending Girls Room. I found myself stepping out of character, doing things I normally wouldn’t do and ultimately allowing the hurt that I experienced to create a person I didn’t want to be. I realized that in order to be a better person, I needed to heal from the things that I didn’t feel comfortable talking about. Girls Room provides me with a positive, open, loving environment that helps me to understand that there are several ways to pray and the significance in embracing a lifestyle of prayer.

After stumbling across powerful quotes on the Girls Room Instagram page, I decided to follow the account. The quotes were so honest, raw and powerful that I am forever changed by them, both mentally and emotionally. When I followed the Instagram account, I had no idea that the page actually belonged to a women’s group that meets every week in the United States. I found a link on the page that took me to a sermon that founder, Asia Garrison, posted on YouTube and could not make it through her lecture without crying. The message that she gave spoke directly to a situation I was in the middle of. Her sermon changed me and I had to let her know! I sent Asia a message and have since been able to develop a relationship with her where I am able to share my life-experiences in an open and caring atmosphere.
When COVID-19 struck, Girls Room started meeting on Zoom every week, and this finally gave me the opportunity as a South African to attend the meetings. I cannot express in words how excited I was! I had always longed to be a part of a community where I could exchange honest experiences and sincere love in a freeing way with other women. Since the first meeting that I attended, I have felt such an incredible sense of belonging. Despite coming from an altogether opposite background and culture from the rest of the ministry, I’ve found that we share so many things in common. Due to the time difference between St. Louis and South Africa, I have to join the meetings at 2:30am and while this is very early, the discussions that we have in Girls Room are so inspirational that I don’t even mind waking up that early.
Girls Room has created an open environment where women are accepted, encouraged and uplifted. Never have I felt like an outsider, or even judged for my background, culture or prior experiences. This ministry unites everyone and makes it possible for us to embrace our sameness, even those of us who come from different countries. What I love most about Girls Room are the messages we take away from our meetings and the empowerment it provides. I always leave a meeting feeling determined and inspired to tackle anything and everything I may encounter throughout the week. I feel truly blessed and favored to belong to such an amazing group of women. I am forever grateful to God for bringing me to that Instagram page over two years ago.

I started coming to Girls Room because I was invited by a close friend of mine and honestly was curious to see what it was. Now that I am a faithful member, I genuinely enjoy our weekly Bible studies. I leave each study with new knowledge and ways to apply it to my spiritual life. After leaving my church home, I was led to Girls Room because I wanted to join a community of Christian youth leaders. Surrounding myself with like-minded women whose aim is getting closer to God is what made me start coming to Girls Room. Being able to connect and share with other women is a blessing. Our ministry is very special because it’s rare that you find communities like it. When you know that God wants you to be pure but you don’t know how to manage that lifestyle in a world that strongly opposes it, it’s exhilarating and refreshing to be able to connect with others who make you feel like you are not alone in your journey. The women in our group are so great!

I have been hooked on Girls Room since I came to one meeting my best friend invited me to. I love that I am able to fellowship with women who share similar beliefs and thoughts, but will also hold me accountable. By joining Girls Room I have been fortunate to foster friendships with women from all over the country who share the same values I do. I made the choice to abstain until marriage and Girls Room gives me the space to communicate with women about my decision freely. I believe that I am a better person because of this ministry. Our group helps me walk the path of purity and in turn, I have a stronger connection to the Lord.
Before I joined Girls Room, I honestly was inconsistent with reading the Bible but now I challenge myself to memorize scriptures. Even the relationships that I have with my friends are stronger and have more meaning as a result of me attending the group. No topic is off the table and we hold each other accountable for everything we do and say. I’ve made friendships that will last forever and I look forward to making more as Girls Room expands.

I had been looking for a group of young, like-minded believers to engage with for a long time and then came across Girls Room from a friend’s social media post. I am a young ministry leader and when you are steadily pouring into others on a regular basis, it is important to have someone or someplace that allows you to be poured into as well.
